Otter on Isle of Mull

As a wildlife photographer, my journey to photograph otters on the Isle of Mull was a thrilling adventure that required both patience and perseverance. Armed with my camera gear and a passion for capturing the natural beauty of Scotland's wildlife, I embarked on this photographic quest with high hopes.

The first thing I did was to scout out potential locations where otters might be found. After talking to locals and doing some research, I identified a few promising spots along the coastline. I made sure to check the tide times, as otters are often more active during low tide when they can access more food.

On my first morning, I set out before dawn, the soft light of the rising sun painting the landscape in a warm glow. As I approached the shoreline, I scanned the area with my telephoto lens, hoping to catch a glimpse of an otter. I moved slowly and quietly, careful not to startle any wildlife.

Suddenly, I spotted movement in the water – an otter swimming gracefully, its sleek body gliding effortlessly through the waves. My heart raced with excitement as I focused my camera and snapped a series of photos. The otter seemed oblivious to my presence, engrossed in its morning swim.

Over the next few days, I continued to explore different locations, each one offering unique opportunities to photograph otters in their natural habitat. Sometimes, I would spend hours waiting for the perfect moment, observing their behavior and capturing their playful antics. Other times, I would be rewarded with unexpected encounters, such as an otter diving for fish just a few feet away.

As I reflect on my experience photographing otters on the Isle of Mull, I am filled with a deep sense of gratitude. Gratitude for the opportunity to witness these magnificent creatures up close, and gratitude for the privilege of capturing their beauty through my lens. It was an unforgettable experience that has left me with a newfound appreciation for the natural world.
